Most weeks I try to take Eva to the Keller library for story time. I love that they have a special story time room that is decorated and contained. The library offers a time for babies under 18 months and another time for older toddlers/preschoolers. I like the songs and rhymes that they do at the younger class but they are the exact same ones every week. The older class does a craft (yay!) and has new stories each week but the stories are longer and Eva gets antsy. Either way we go I feel like it isn't a perfect fit.
Regardless, I like having somewhere close and free to get out of the house so I usually pick a library time to go to. Lately we've been sticking to the baby time. So imagine a room full of sweet little babies all sitting on their mama's (or occasionally daddy's) laps. They are smiling and cooing softly. The mama's are smiling and reading along. And then there is my daughter...the girl that has 0% shy genes in her...the one that loves to sing and dance....and doesn't mind being the center of attention. She loves to get up in the middle of the circle and dance. She loves to run around the room. She loves to "borrow" the other kids' books or pacifiers or snacks. Yikes. Oh, how I love my girl. She keeps me laughing and on my toes. I hope that we don't bother the librarian too much.
Really though, isn't a toddler made to wiggle? I never know if I should have her sit with me more, but I don't think it's much of an option. At the baby time, most of the other kids are younger than her and haven't hit their boundless energy stage yet. At the pre-k one, more of the kids are old enough to "put on their listening ears" and exhibit a bit more self control. Maybe other moms of toddlers are too busy chasing their kids around the house and decide not to attempt the library? This past week there was another little girl there who was 14 months and she was exactly like Eva. In fact the held hands and hugged each other and danced in the middle of the room together. You would have thought that they'd known each other for longer than 5 minutes. I was just thankful that my child wasn't the only one :)
