Wow. You are 8 months pregnant in August? You must be HOT.

Today I had ice cream with a friend in Denton. It was very hot, even inside the ice cream shop. It got me thinking that I probably have people comment to me about pregnant, hot and uncomfortable about 10 times a day. And with 114 degree temperatures, it's true. I am hot and uncomfortable. But there are also many hidden blessings in being pregnant over the summer. Here are a few of the benefits I've discovered:
1. I can wear less clothes. If I had to wear pants and shirts, and dare I say a sweater, every day I would be annoyed not only with having to wear so much clothing that grows increasing tighter, but also with having to pick out more clothing to put on. Wearing a dress is so much easier.
2. I have saved money on clothes. Thankfully, I have only had to buy 6 maternity shirts and 3 pairs of maternity pants. Shopping is fun, but when you consider how briefly you wear maternity clothes, I didn't want to buy a whole new wardrobe. My normal summer clothes are naturally more flowing and have given me more options with a growing bump. If I was pregnant in the fall or winter. I would probably have to buy more pants and even a coat.
3. Nobody judges me for eating ice cream every day. Everybody else is enjoying this sweet treat too, so I don't feel as guilty. 2 scoops? Don't mind if I do.
4. I can go swimming all the time. Swimming not only makes me feel cooler, but takes away some of the strain of the baby weight on my body. If I was pregnant in the winter, I'm pretty sure I'd still feel hot and my back would still hurt, but I couldn't get in the water.
5. I don't have to worry about having a perfect bikini body. I'm actually just guessing on this one. I have this hope that when people see me at the pool in my bathing suit they think, "Oh, that lady is about to have a baby," and show a little grace on the physical appearance of me in my bathing suit. Plus after I have her in September I will have almost a whole year to get back in rockin' shape for next summer!
6. By next summer Eva will be big enough to splash around in the pool with me! Who doesn't want a cute pool buddy? If I had her in June, I'd probably have to wait out most of the summer before we could safely hit the pool.
7. Summer has been a fun time for baby showers. We've had ice cream, pie, and lemonade - perfect summer treats! Plus my wedding showers were in the summer 3 years earlier, so it brings back fun memories.
8. Since Eva's birthday will be in September, she will likely always be one of the oldest in her class. I like to think this will give her an edge ahead :) Plus I'll get one more year of being at home with her before she starts Kindergarten and one more year before she goes away to college. Yes, both of those events are WAY far away now, but they'll happen one day.
9. It's always a good conversation starter. Minus a few awkward comments, I usually enjoy talking to strangers when I'm out and about. So even if the conversation starts off talking about being hot I enjoy getting to talk to people.
10. I love summer. And I love being pregnant. Putting 2 amazing things together always makes them even better!
