A Baby Story

Once upon a time a boy and a girl met on a mission trip to Nashville, TN. They started dating, fell in love, and got married on July 19, 2008. A little more than 2 years later they decided to start praying for God to bless them with a baby. God answered their prayer quickly (a little more quickly than was expected by this young couple!) and began growing a tiny baby inside of an excited young mother. 12 weeks later they are finally ready to share their news with EVERYBODY.

Yes... Ryan and I are having a baby!!!! We went to the doctor for this week and heard the strong heartbeat again and took a picture of our little baby. It was so cute because the baby was wiggling and moving its little hands and feet and then it suddenly flipped upside down! When you look at the sono picture, the head outline is right in the middle with the body beneath and if you look closely you can see the outline of the feet and one hand on the left looks like it is waving. The heartbeat was 160 bpm, so for those who believe in old wives tales, it could be a girl...but we will have to wait and see! I have heard the heartbeat 2 times now and both times my heart immediately responds in awe of God. It is so amazing how a baby grows inside of you! And all I have to do each day is just be and let our amazing creator do the rest! (It also seems to help when I eat the baby's favorite food- Mexican!)

My due date is around September 12, 2011. I'm sure it will be a long, hot Texas summer but it will be so worth it! We're also so excited because Ryan's sister, Amanda is having her baby around June 10th, so our babies will only be 3 months apart!

How I Told Ryan
The weekend of New Years I began to suspect that I might be pregnant. I took a test, but it was negative, so I though, "Oh well. My body must be crazy. Maybe next month." Through out week I kept feeling different. Hmm... I read the sometimes home pregnancy tests can be negative if taken early on. Ryan suggested that maybe I try another one. I kind of shrugged it off. The following Sunday, while Ryan was getting things set up at church, I decided to try one more time. Woah! This one was definitely positive. I wanted to surprise Ryan after church, so I did what any joyful pregnant woman would do and called my best friend Erica! I had to tell somebody right then.

I managed to keep everything a secret all through church that morning (although Ryan said that I seemed extremely happy that day...). This also happened to be the Sunday in January that we got our first snow for the year. After church we came home and I turned on Colbie Caillet's "Capri" which starts out with the lyrics, "She's got a baby inside...." We were dancing in the kitchen and I pulled out my little positive stick. After laughter, tears, and prayers of thanksgiving to the Lord, we ran outside and took a picture with the snow in the background. It's not a wonderful picture because it was so windy and freezing cold, but I love how it captured that moment.

More baby blogging to come in the following month. Thank you to all our of close family and friends who already knew and have loved us and prayed for us and been so supportive when we needed it!

  1. Congrats, Kate! That's super exciting! The months of waiting for your first little one are so long - and so awesome! And you're due only 2 weeks after my little one. :)

I saw your mother-in-law at church a few weeks ago and she mentioned that you had told her I was pregnant - I said I kept waiting to hear that you were going to have a baby. I guess she already knew that you WERE, huh? :) Congrats, again!
